Diagnostic Assessment

The diagnosis of ADHD in adults is done using a combination of clinical interviewing, standardized questionnaires, and cognitive testing. Current research indicates that a complete neuropsychological assessment is not necessary in all cases for the diagnosis of ADHD in adults. We therefore offer two standard packages for diagnostic assessments:

Standard Clinical Evaluation

A Standard Clinical Evaluation is usually sufficient for the diagnosis of ADHD if no other mood or cognitive difficulties are present or suspected.
The in-depth clinical evaluation includes the following:
  • Brief phone screening
  • Standardized symptom questionnaires
  • Detailed clinical interview
  • Objective testing for attention
  • Review of academic documentation
  • Integrated report including detailed results and recommendations
  • 30 minute feedback session
The Standard Clinical Evaluation requires two visits to the clinic: (1) an assessment session of approximately 2.5 hours for the clinical interview and testing for attention, and (2) a feedback session of 30 minutes to review the report with your neuropsychologist and discuss the recommendations provided. The cost for the Standard Clinical Evaluation is $950.

Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment

A Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment may be needed if other cognitive or mood difficulties are suspected. You may also wish to complete the full neuropsychological assessment if you would like to have an understanding of your cognitive functioning in different domains. The additional cognitive testing allows us to compare your abilities across domains and determine your relative strengths and weaknesses. These tests also allow for increased accuracy in differentiating between different cognitive difficulties and difficulties that may be caused by other factors, such as mood or anxiety.
The Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment includes the following:
  • Brief phone screening
  • Standardized symptom questionnaires
  • Detailed clinical interview
  • Objective testing for multiple different types of attention, executive functioning, memory, processing speed, verbal and nonverbal reasoning, and general IQ*
  • Integrated report including detailed results and recommendations
  • 45 minute feedback session
The Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment requires three visits to the clinic: (1) a 2 hour session for the clinical interview, (2) a testing session of approximately 3 hours, and (3) a feedback session of 45 minutes to review the results of the cognitive testing with your neuropsychologist and discuss the recommendations provided. The cost for the Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment is $1500

*In some cases, where agreed upon in advance, additional tests may be added for specific purposes for an additional fee.

  • Exploring the links between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and how these interact with the symptoms of ADHD
  • Developing more helpful and adaptive thinking
  • Creating a personalized plan for maintaining gains
Psychological treatment is usually short-term (approximately 5 to 12 sessions), and the length and frequency of the sessions can be determined with your psychologist. The cost per session is $150.
